The Story of the Intelligent Young Man

In the old days on the island of Socotra, there was a man who had a girl with the beauty that the eye could not tire of seeing and that her intelligence and intelligence made her more beautiful than her enchanting beauty. Therefore, her father loved her very much and feared her a lot, and the man’s fear for his daughter increased when he saw the greed of men.

With her and their rush to marry her, the father decided and resolved not to marry his daughter except to a young man characterized by intelligence, intelligence, wisdom, courage, and high morals so that he could protect her and be a support for her in this life—all in persuading a man and passing his exams.

And there was one of the kings on the island who married his son three times, and each time the son divorced his wife without talking about the reasons until his father expelled him and exiled him from the tribe. The young man went out of the city to find work and found work as a shepherd. One day, while he was tending sheep, the man’s wife saw him and was impressed by his dedication to his work and his honesty as the number of sheep had increased since the young man worked with her husband. Still, the woman was afraid that the young man would leave work for her husband, so she thought She had the idea of marrying him to her stepdaughter so that he would stay with them and continue herding the sheep.

The stepmother presented the idea to the girl, but she refused her aunt’s request and said, “I will not marry him or anyone else until my father travels with him to find out the truth.”

So the stepmother presented the matter to her husband and told him about his daughter’s condition to marry. The father agreed to the situation and went to the young man and said: Tomorrow, do not go out with the sheep, you and I will travel for a few days to spend a need!

They traveled together, and while they were on the road, they passed sheep, and the young man said: How many and how few! The man was surprised by him, but he did not respond to him.

Then they passed by other sheep, and the young man said: How small and how many! The man said to himself, What a fool. Maybe my daughter sensed his stupidity, so she asked me to travel with him to discover his truth.

After that, they passed by his cemetery, and the young man said: You have the living, and the dead are in you!

They also passed by a beautiful orchard, and the young man said: I do not know if this orchard is green or dry! The man was very impressed, but he did not speak but began to talk to himself and say: I will not marry him to my daughter, no matter what happens. And when they returned from the trip, he went to his daughter and told her everything that happened on the trip. The girl said to him, “It’s a good young man, Dad.” So her father said to her, How is that?

The girl said: There were more rams than ewes for the first sheep.

The second sheep were ewes more than rams.

As for his words about the people of the cemetery, he meant that whoever left offspring is alive, and whoever did not go is dead.

And the orchard, if its owner works with the money in his hands, then it is green, and if it is with debt, then it is dry.

Despite the girl’s explanation of what happened, the father did not reassure himself and did not agree to the marriage and said: My daughter is the most beloved and dearest person to my heart, so there must be another test.

The following day, he took fifty of his pregnant goats who were about to give birth, gave them to the young man and his leg, and took them to a barren land, a desert without trees or stones. Then the father withdrew and returned home, leaving the sheep and the young man in that empty place, and the young man only remained for a short while until the sheep began to lay. He carried them and gave birth one by one, even if it was past half the day, and they all put what was in their wombs.

The young man was confused as to what to do and how to do it, as he could not return with the sheep on his own, and if he left the sheep and their young, they were all lost, and there was no place to save the young so that the sheep with their young would remain in the same place.

While he was confused, an idea came to mind, so he dug a hole for each of the youngsters to prevent him from going out to his mother. He drilled fifty holes and then put each of them in a spot, and as soon as the sun began to set, he completed the digging process and put the young children inside and locked them in front of their mothers.

Thus the young man returned without the sheep, and the father was eagerly awaiting his return. And when he saw him empty-handed, he thought that the young man had failed the exam and that he had lost the sheep.

The young man went to his house and slept, and in the early morning, the young man woke up the owner of the sheep and said to him: Let’s go to the place where I left the sheep. Perhaps there is only one goat left so that we can take it back. And when they reached that barren place, he found all the sheep in their area, some of them crouching, calling their voices to their young who were shouting from where no one saw them.

The father was amazed at what this young man made and wondered and wondered in himself how this young man, with his clever plan, was able to preserve all the sheep. While he was impressed by what happened, the young man said: Receive your sheep, and I will go to another country, and I hope that every goat will give its son and be careful that it mixes with you.

Then the father went crazy and said to him: Please don’t leave me, for I don’t know where the little boys are and who the mother of each of them is.

Here the young man learned that he had passed the exam and that the father had been satisfied with him, so he got up and took out the children of the sheep and gave each of them its youngest.

The father felt reassured, and his admiration increased for the intelligent young man after passing the exam and asking him to marry his beautiful daughter and not leave the country. So the So the young man agreed to marry and settle with his uncle, and they worked together herding sheep.

Giant’s Tale

In the old days, there was a giant, strong and muscular man from the inhabitants of the island of Socotra. But unfortunately, this giant failed to find a bride for him on the island, so he traveled around the country searching for a bride who would accept him, but all his attempts were unsuccessful.

After he despaired from finding a wife for him, he returned to the island of Socotra and settled there and worked in palm cultivation in parts of the island’s valleys.

Little by little, his cultivation expanded until he seized all the lands in those areas. Whenever the islanders tried to plant palms, the giant threatened them and prevented them from approaching those lands, taking advantage of their fear of his strength and the enormity of his body.

It is said that his screaming was shaking all over the island. But, by the strength of his body, he could carry a palm tree trunk alone and eat a bag full of dates in one day, and from the intensity of his love for dates, when he felt very thirsty on hot summer days, he mashed the dates with water and then drank from it until it was satiated.

One day, a man from the island’s inhabitants passed by the palm farms owned by the giant, and when he saw the dates and abundant goodness in them, he said to himself why this giant owns all these lands alone and prevents us from farming? Therefore, there must be a way to end the domination of this giant and take back those lands from him.

So he went to one of the wise men of the island, who was called (Nabhi) and told him the story of the giant. So Nabhi said to him: Wait until the beginning of summer and then try to follow the giant and watch him well without feeling you, and you have to monitor everything he says and does and inform me of it.

So the man waited until summer came and began to watch the giant every day. After a week of observation, the man returned to Al-Hakim, who warned him and said: I did what you commanded me. Every morning, I used to see him carrying a jar of ghee filled with water on his back from the valley to his cave. And after he sighs, he says: I wish my heart were as strong as my strength!

Nabhi said to him, “Tomorrow, use three brave men, carry your weapons with you, and go to confront the giant.” The man said, “How can we confront him when he is huge and more powerful than us?” Nabhi said to him: Your courage will defeat him.

Do as I told you, and you will be able to eliminate it!

The following day, the men confronted the giant, and as soon as he saw them attacking him with their weapons, he became afraid and lost his strength and began to flee, but they could catch him and eliminate him quickly.

And it was only days until the news of the giant’s death spread, and the people of the island rejoiced in restoring the lands that the giant had robbed and planted palms in the valleys.
